How To Store Your Summer Items During The Winter

Storage For Your Patio Furniture

As summer comes to an end, we have to start thinking about putting away our summer toys. Keep your home clutter free by storing your lawn equipment, pool toys, patio furniture and summer clothes in a rented storage unit.

It’s important to store your items properly so they are ready to go next spring.

Here are 5 tips for storing your summer items over the winter:

  1. Prep summer tools for storage

  2. Organize your wardrobe

  3. Help pool toys last longer

  4. Protect your patio furniture

  5. Rent a St Albert Storage Unit Near You

Prep Summer Tools For Storage

Over the years, we all spend quite a bit on summer tools. Lawnmowers, shovels, weed whackers, leaf blowers and all other seasonal tools are expensive. Take care of them and get as much life out of them as possible by prepping and storing them properly.

Clean absolutely every surface of every tool. Any dirt, oil, or other contaminants, can damage your tools while in storage. Make sure everything is completely dry before storing away for the winter.

For any of your motorized items, remove the battery and store it off the floor in a climate-controlled area. Completely empty the fuel tank or add a fuel stabilizer to the tank and let it circulate through the system.

Organize Your Wardrobe

It’s always a good idea to switch out seasonal clothing. Closet space is at a premium in most homes and you don’t want these items taking up valuable space.

Before putting your summer clothing away for the winter, clean and dry everything. Doing this will prevent any lingering stains or body oils from setting into your clothing and ruining it.

Store your items in a plastic tote or wardrobe boxes to protect them as much as possible. When using a wardrobe box, be sure not to use wire hangers as they can alter the shape of your clothing while in storage.

Help Pool Toys Last Longer

When storing away your pool toys for the winter, always make sure they are 100% dry. There are many places that water can hide in pool toys and any water left behind can cause mold and mildew to grow.

Deflate anything that is inflatable, fold up everything that can be and store them away in plastic totes.

Protect Your Patio Furniture

Patio furniture is meant to be outside in warm weather, not freezing temperatures and snow. If you plan on leaving your furniture outside over the winter, invest in some furniture covers to keep them protected from the elements.

Putting your patio furniture in a storage unit is a great option. Wood and wicker furniture especially, can warp in extreme temperatures and conditions. When putting it in a storage unit for the winter, make sure it is completely clean and dry. By protecting your patio furniture, you will be able to enjoy it for many years to come.
