Storing Cars, RVs and Boats

More neighborhoods are cracking down on what vehicles can be parked where, we have seen an increase in the number of people needing to store boats, cars, and RVs with us. Keeping these items with us frees up space on your property. It also helps you stay in compliance with any neighborhood ordinances.

We have spaces that will accommodate any sized RV, car, or boat. We offer a variety of spaces based on what you need and what your budget allows. We see people who need to store vehicles for all sorts of reasons, the most common are:

  • Not enough parking space at home

  • City ordinances not allowing extra vehicles

  • Traveling often

  • Winter vehicle storage

  • Project cars

  • More garage space

  • Extra security and protection from weather

Boats and RVs usually don’t get used year-round. When winter comes, and there is no way you would be outside in a boat, you can store it with us. The same goes for your motorcycles, bikes, and four-wheelers. They take up space in your home, and parking them outside does not seem like the best idea either. We can take them off your hands during the cold months, but first you should do a little bit of maintenance to prepare.

How to Prepare Your Boat, RV, or Vehicle for Storage

Storing your vehicle is easy, but there are some things you should do before you drop it off with us. No matter what type of vehicle you’re storing, these steps will prevent unwanted surprises when you pick it back up.

  • To prevent damage to the engine, change your oil and refresh the coolant. It is also a good idea to disconnect the vehicle’s battery so it does not drain while it is in storage.

  • Ensure any electronics or other items that may be damaged due to freezing temperatures are removed from the vehicle.

  • Storage spaces can get dusty, so we recommend washing your vehicle to discourage the buildup of dust. Apply a layer of wax to protect the paint from moisture and other microbial damage before you drop it off.

  • Experts recommend parking your vehicle with the front-facing out of the garage or storage space for easy jump-starting in case your battery dies while the vehicle is parked in storage.

  • Your tires will require attention. Inflate your tires and move your vehicle every 2-3 months if possible. If you are unable to move your vehicle, put it on jack stands. This will preserve your tires’ condition while your vehicle is in long-term storage.

  • No matter where your vehicle is stored, sometimes things happen. In the unlikely event of fire, theft, or other disasters, we recommend investing in an insurance protection plan to cover any unexpected occurrences that may happen. Protection plans are typically offered by storage facilities or through most auto insurance providers.

RVs and boats are typically used in the warmer months of the year. We see an increase in RVs and boats being parked in storage during the winter, where they can safely be parked with minimal risk of damage. Before you drop your RV or boat off for the winter, do these things:

  • Keep your tires off the ground to prevent them from becoming deflated and misshaped. Propping them up on jacks is the best way to do that. If that is not possible, make sure you move your RV every so often and keep those tires inflated.

  • Clean and check all seals. Seals that aren’t flushed can let in moisture, dirt, and even pests. Make sure all seals are airtight, and if you find any that aren’t, use tape as a quick fix. Also, make sure you remove propane tanks before storing.

  • Leave doors, cabinets, and drawers open. You don’t want to get any mold or mildew in your RV, so ensure all your spaces have air to breathe.

  • Just like with your car, charge batteries fully and disconnect them. Your battery may not last the winter season if it is connected.

  • If your RV has a septic tank, flush it out and then add ¼ of a tank of water so that it does not dry out while in storage. If your RV has freshwater tanks, disinfect your pipes to prevent mold or bacteria from growing.
